This new foundation degree is part of our drive to train people to develop and deliver sustainable communities. Our target is to be delivering the degree in each of the nine English region's by 2011.

The course

You will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to become a sustainable communities professional. You will develop, incrementally, an awareness and understanding of the issues that confront people who create and maintain sustainable communities.

Where and when

• Sheffield Hallam University (starting Jan 09)
• Northumbria University (starting Sept 09)
• A part-time course over three years – normally taught in block days and/or weeks and/or one day weekly sessions.
• Eligibility for a Certificate in Higher Education in Sustainable Communities after successful completion of half of this award.
• First term is likely to be taught in block days taking place on Friday-Saturday, once a month, making it accessible for people in full-time employment.

Fees & Bursaries

• The course is delivered as a part-time degree over three years.
  
• The current fees are set at £1,000 per year at Sheffield Hallam and £1,840 at Northumbria University, payable in instalments.
• Employers or suitable applicants may also be eligible for a bursary from ASC, worth £500 in the first year of study. For further information and an application form, see the bursaries page.
  

Future opportunities

If you successfully complete the foundation degree award you may choose to carry on studying to achieve an honours degree in

• BA (Honours) in Housing Professional Studies
• BA (Honours) in Planning Studies
• BA (Honours) in Environmental Studies
